Little House on the Prairie: Caroline agrees to substitute in the Walnut Grove school for Miss Beadle, who has sprained her ankle in a carriage accident. The students give Caroline a tough time at first, but although they eventually warm up to her, she questions her competency as a teacher when Abel--who started school late in his life and does not know how to read--runs out of class one day. Caroline convinces the boy to return, and with the help of the other children, he begins to thrive in his reading skills--that is, until a certain townsperson interferes.
